On the bank side, Credit Bank offers the best savings rate at 12.68%. The bank deposit industry average is 8.70%.

Tax changes the math for both options. Kenya's 15% withholding tax applies to MMF and bank interest, so you must subtract that before comparing cash you receive.

Example on KES 100,000: Credit Bank at 12.68% pays KES 12,680 gross, and after 15% tax you keep KES 10,778. Cytonn at 9.39% gives KES 9,390 in interest and after 15% tax you keep KES 7,981.50. Use these after-tax figures when you choose liquidity or a savings account.

Lending rates remain well above the CBR. The bank lending industry average (CBK) is 15.44%. The cheapest quoted bank loan rate today is Citibank N.A. Kenya at 10.36%, while the most expensive is Commercial International Bank Kenya at 20.00%.
